Modular Power Supplies

Reduce cable clutter and improve airflow with CORSAIR modular power supplies. Fewer cables means a cleaner build, and CORSAIR modular PSUs give you the freedom to use only the cables you need.

What to look for in a modular power supply unit

Just like with any PSU in your PC, look at the following parameters while you’re shopping:

  • Size and form factor: ATX units take up more space, while SFX units can slot into cramped cases.
  • Continuous power: Start with the amount of juice you’ll need for your PC components (measured in wattage).
  • Connector compatibility: Make sure you know which cables a modular PSU calls for.
  • Efficiency ratings: You’ll find filters on this page to comb the list for 80 Plus and Cybenetics standard ratings.
  • Size and cable management constraints: Look for how big your PSU is, and if you have specific cable management needs, go with a Modular PSU.
  • Modularity: Do you need a fully-modular power supply? Or would a semi-modular PSU work for your next PC build?

What is a modular power supply unit and should you get one?

In essence, a modular power supply unit is simply a PSU that allows you to fully disconnect all the cables that terminate at the PSU. Non-modular units have hard-wired cables, so there’s no way to customize where they exit the PSU. This can be very handy for tighter PC cases and PC builds in which you want to really streamline your cable management. You can also customize how long the cables are, giving you the option to buy the shortest ones and leave as little slack dangling in your case as possible—resulting in a cleaner build.
